APPROVED ROOFING MATERIALS

In order to preserve a proper blend and continuity to our neighborhood, the covenants specify a cedar wood shake appearance to our roofs. However, the City of Colorado Springs has revised the building codes restricting the use of cedar wood shake roofing.    There has been fire concerns expressed by certain insurance companies and the City Fire Department for the installation of wood shake roofs, even shakes that are coated with a fire retardant material. The lighter, fire retardant asphalt composition materials available do not conform to this desired neighborhood blend and continuity and are therefore prohibited  by the Golden Hills Home Owners Association.

The Homeowners Association, therefore, compiled a list of acceptable roofing materials with associated manufacturer’s literature and some samples to assist the homeowner in selecting a replacement roof, if necessary. The materials and manufacturers indicated below are only a guide. There are possibly other acceptable, equivalent competitive materials available but not listed.  Although the materials and manufacturers listed here have satisfactory reputations, the Golden Hills Homeowners Association cannot guarantee material quality or the manufacturers, suppliers and/or installers integrity.

Credit is given to your neighbors who devoted time and effort to this survey: Bill Thomas, Gene Inman, Todd Matlock, Bernie Vonk, and Norbert Necker.

NOTE:  Request for approval from Architectural Control Committee must be submitted on all roofing replacements including those listed below.
